I bought this book from the Science Fiction Book Club when I was about fifteen. When I was sixteen, I saw Sturgeon speak at the local university. I remember that he mentioned he was a nudist and that he wrote the episode Amok Time for Star Trek, the original series. I got his autograph on my ticket stub, and I still have it lodged between the pages of the boook.
I bought and read this book in the early 1980's. I could and still can identify with the protagonist.
Over twenty-five years ago, when I was enrolled at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, I had a class called, The Philosophy of Art. One day, John Judson spoke to our class. There were less than ten students in the class, so we sat in a circle, Judson included. It was more of a discussion with him. At twenty, I was incrediby naive. I felt intimidated by him, even though he didn't do anything to cause this, so I never said anything. Judson influenced me then, and he still does. He's a very good writer. He is evidence of writers that don't receive the notority they derserve.

about Teenage Monsters

What happens when a stolen gun from the old west and a little demon from the Land of the Dead are combined with three misdirected tennagers, Jay Farragut, Don Smith, and Danny Compson who for kicks engage in a ritual in a cemetery to turn Danny into a monster?

excerpt from Teenage Monsters

The obscene and unfamiliar sight made it difficult to comprehend. Neither saw a violent death in real life, and it took a moment for their minds to adjust to the graphic scene.

"Let's get the hell out of here," Jay said.

They bolted from the cemetery. No slow motion dream sequence hindered their progress, but still they couldn't run fast enough to feel safe. A little ritual, a cemetery dance in Holy Ghost Park, initially intended for kicks collapsed into a nightmare.
